Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power App Reviews

We loved Trine and Trine 2 and bought without any doubts immediately Trine 3. Impossible to give no star, because the game does not start at all … when will we get this fixed to be able to write something about the game?

I would give 5 stars for the story, the physics and the quests, but… When using a controller the game doesn’t recognize the controller the next start. Solution: Switch to keyboard before shutting down the game. The next time it’ll start with the keyboard. Macbook users should have in mind the game heats your book up to 91 degree C , so you can iron your shirt with it, but only cotton. It sucks the accu dry in about 1,5 hours. That’s a no go for any piece of code. Sorry, even if I really like the game, I played Trine 1 & 2 almost daily, those are serious issues that has to be fixed asap.

3D Sequal. Own all three. Could have been great however, there are several known issues with this game that have never been addressed by the developer. In the result the gameplay is extremely laggy and it always opens two windows rather than the usual single; need to use mission control to close one of them. Big memory drain as well. Poor coding or just tried to cram too much in to 3D version. T1 and T2; 2D versons are excellent and highly recommended by users and reviewers alike.

I’ve played both previous Trine games with my boys and this was a great surprise to see it in the App store. We were so anxious to try the co-op play. Unfortunately, the game can’t even be played. I can’t get pass the opening screen which reads “Click here to start”. No matter of clicking (or hitting every key on the keyboard) will advanced past the startup screen. I’ve got an iMac 2011, a 2014 MacBook Pro Retina and a newer Late 2015 4GHz i7 iMac 5K all running El Capitan. Not one of the machines will allow the game to continue past the startup screen. I’m looking forward to playing the game, but I don’t think it’s been tested enough to be ready for release. Maybe others will have different experiences. One of my three machines has a brand new install of El Cap on it. Frozenbyte, my family loves your games. We just need to be able to play this one. Looking forward to updates which will fix any issues!

Here is a work around to get past the startup screen: Press "Command - Tab” and cycle to finder Then press "Command - Tab” again and cycle back to Trine 3 Should work after that.

I was looking forward to this game and was very disappointed. Trine 2 wasnt too easy, yet wasnt too challenging. Trine 3 took away the side scrolling platformer and added another dimension which makes it very hard to control the character. Also, they make it so you need to collect these gem things to advance. Will not be finishing this game. Money wasted. Thanks

The Graphics and 3D are brilliant. A fantastic addition to the Trine Series. Check it out. Always impressed with the art direction - this is no exception.

My son and I have played both Trine and Trine 2, and he was very excited to see Trine 3 (and eager to spend the Christmas money burning a hole in his pocket) unfortunately he is unable to play the game as it crashes after clicking “Start Trine 3” on the Launcher window. He has a 27-inch, Late 2009 iMac with 16GB of Memory. We’ve tried reconfiguring the screen resolution, refresh rate, anti-aliasing, vertical sync and the graphic details with success. We’ve even uninstalled and reinstalled the game. I’d really like to give the game higher ratings, but it would require being able to play the game. ** UPDATED ** Ok, readling a little closer (and after downloading OpenGL Extensions Viewer) I realize that my son’s mac does not support OpenGL 4.1. Ok, it’s not like that information is pasted on the About dialog and easy to find. Fortunately, We have other Mac’s at our house that do meet the requirements. Still a little disappointing.

Trine 3

At this price it’s a steal! Does look like it was unfinished at the end, but perhaps another sequal or even a full addition is planned.

I was a little disappointed to see the 3D graphics. Trine 2’s graphics were amazing, but they could’t do all the subtle lighting, etc. in Trine 3 with the 3 D characters. That said, I enjoyed playing it. If you can’t start it, just cmd-tab away to another app, and then back to Trine 3 and it works fine. It’s true that Trine 3 won’t let you advance until you have enough triangles, but it gives you a chance to replay just certain sections of a level so you can get some of the triangles you missed. Also, it has several side adventures that help you get additional triangles, and teach you new tricks for your people to do in the main adventure. If you enjoyed Trine 2, you’ll like Trine 3.

Just bought this and it will not launch. I read the other review “Falls following Launcher” and the OpenGL 4.1. That’s inconvenient. First, I have never heard of OpenGL. I don’t think a developer should be able to sell a game to a perosn/computer not equipped to run it. Second, I don’t know how to check if my computer runs OpenGL. The question is, how technical do consumers now need to become to enjoy gaming? What about the consumer who has minimal computer skills and just wants to enjoy playing a game? No luck for him or her I suppose. It’s too bad, I was looking forward to playing this since I bought Trine 1 and 2. Because I don’t know what OpenGL is, if my computer has it or not, or, if in fact that is even the problem. I guess this average computer user who just wants to have a good time will miss out. Oh, if you fix the problem I will remove my negative review.

Game crashes on startup. The ONLY thing mentioned in the requirements is Mac OSX 10.9 or later. I have 10.9.5. But…apparently my GPU doesn’t support OpenGL 4.1 LAME! I want a refund! Totally bogus.

I have played Trine 1 and 2 both a zillion times. Loved 1 best but 2 was OK. Trine 3 is simply dreadful, although the graphics are still nice….that is if you can get the game to start, which often takes multiple attempts. I had to quit playing entirely because the game kept crashing half way through a critical location. .I’d worked my way through several chapters, despite the bugs. AND on one of the last locations, the game crashed each time at the exact same point. I played through several times reaching that point only to have the game crash. The mouse also glitches throughout the game which makes the play very frustrating. This game would be dreadful even if you got it for free here. Do NOT waste your time or one penny. If you try to go to the game’s website, you have to agree to a scary privacy agreement, so you cannot get help from them unless you guarantee unremovable cookies or some such. Too bad Apple does not screen these apps. One believes, wrongly, that if we get it from the App Store, it should be at least bug free and we should expect far better support.
